How do I know how much to pay?

Once you click on the buy button for a book or a bundle. This will take you to a confirmation page that will show you the final amount you need to pay. If the book is being shipped to you then the shipping amount will be automatically added to the total price. If the book is being picked up then there will be no delivery charge.

    However, if the payment details are not available, or you were expecting to see different totals, you should do the following:

  • Review the book description and all emails you have received from the seller.
  • If you still don't have the information you need, contact the seller and please clarify the total with them.
  • If the seller updates the price of the book or postage then you can go in and purchase the book or bundle by clicking on the buy now button on the book description page.

How do I pay for my book?

How you pay for a book depends on the payment methods accepted by the seller. You should read the book description carefully before you buy, to find out what methods the seller accepts. Currently Student Souk supports 2 methods of payment; Paypal and cash on collection.

Once buy book/bundle button is clicked you will get the option to select the payment method you prefer. Selecting PayPal will take you through to PayPal to complete your purchase and you will need to click on the "return to merchant" button in PayPal to confirm the transaction within Student Souk. Selecting cash on collection will bring up a contact box for you to contact the seller and to organise a place and time to complete the transaction.

Choosing a payment method

There are many things to consider when choosing a payment method. For sellers are you willing to send the books out to the seller or would you prefer a local sale? and as a buyer are you willing to travel far to collect a book or wait for the book to be shipped?

Sending Payments with PayPal

PayPal is preferred payment method for most Student Souk buyers and sellers. PayPal lets you to send payments quickly and securely online using a credit card or bank account.

    Before you pay using PayPal:

  • The seller needs to offer PayPal as a payment method in their listing.
  • The buyer needs to have a PayPal account.

New to Student Souk - Getting Started

Welcome to Student Souk. Student Souk provides UK university students with a platform to make back some of the money they have spent on buying books for their university course. The best part of this website is that our service is completely free. We don't charge any listing fees or sales commissions or anything for that matter. We understand students are having a difficult time as it is with money and do not want to add to that.

Step 1: Register on Student Souk

The first step for buying and selling on Student Souk is to register as a member. Registering on Student Souk is easy and free. To register you can click on the login button which will take you to the login page and also give you the option to register or you can click on the either of the 2 blue banners on the home page.

Step 2: Learn more about Student Souk

Student Souk has been designed with students in mind and the concept is to allow students to easily buy textbooks for their university course and to easily sell the textbooks they no longet need. Student Souk uniquely allows members to list their books by university and course meaning that any student on the same course can automatically search for their university and course in our search box and your books will show up within the same results.

  • The following key points will help you understand a little bit more about how Student Souk operates:
  • When you buy a book through Student Souk, you are buying the book from other sellers and not Student Souk directly.
  • Student Souk is an agent for bringing together buyers and sellers. Currently Student Souk does not buy or sell anything directly.
  • Student Souk has certain terms and conditions and a privacy policy to help keep you safe. These conditions must be agreed to when signing up for an account with Student Souk.
  • Student Souk has an excellent support team to assist you with buying and selling. A review system has also been implemented allowing you to read more about what others have said about a particular buyer or seller before you commit to a sale.
  • Please be sure to keep your contact details up to date so that other members find it easy to contact you and we can also notify you when your book has been sold.
  • Please be aware of any fake emails that claim to be from Student Souk. Student Souk will never ask you for personal or account details via emails.
  • Student Souk has developed into a large community of students looking to help each other. Please take the time to read our forums and blogs and to take part by posting comments and more importantly your opinion.

The simplest way to find a book is to use the search box available on every page. This will allow you to view books listed for a particular university and course. You can also use the advanced search option to narrow your search even further

Selling a book is very simple and quick. Books can be sold as single listing or as bundles meaning you can sell a bunch of books for a single price and under the same listing.

Here's how Student Souk works:

  • A seller lists a book on Student Souk. The seller also chooses the payment option they will accept for the book and will select a university and course the book was used for.
  • A buyer will search on Student Souk to either buy a single book or a bundle of books. Book bundles are typically listed at the end of an academic term or year where many students are looking to sell their books to student in the year below them.
  • Buyers will select the book or bundle they want to buy and will go on to purchase the book. If payment is being made via PayPal then shipping will be added to the final price and the seller will be notified of the payment. The seller will then dispatch the item to the buyer. If the cash on collection option is selected. The buyer will then need to contact the seller with a time and place to meet and await for confirmation from the seller.
  • Buying and selling on Student Souk is easy and it's fun. Best of all, you'll never know what bargains you can find.

What is PayPal?

PayPal is Student Souk's preferred way to pay. It is a system that lets anyone with an email address send and receive online payments securely using their credit card or bank account. Student Souk members can use PayPal to pay for books on Student Souk quickly and easily.

How can I update my account information?

Your account information on Student Souk can be updated via the "my profile" page, which can be accessed either via the dashboard or though the account menu item. At the top of the page please click on the edit profile link to edit your details

Closing your account

Is there anything we can do to help?

We value your participation in the Student Souk community and we'd be sorry to see you go. Sometimes members think they need to close their account because they don't know how to solve a problem. Before you decide to close any of your accounts with Student Souk, we'd like to help you solve any problem you might be having. Therefore please feel free to contact us with any questions using our support ticket system and we will be happy to help.

Closing your Student Souk account

Currently the only way to close your account is to request it by opening a new support ticket via our support section.

Why was my account suspended?

Currently there is only one reason why a account is suspended and this is due to a serious violation of Student Souk terms and conditions

To view your messages in Student Souk:

Click mail in the menu present on all Student Souk pages

As with all our messages, we'll also send a copy to the email address we have on file for your account.

Resolving your account suspension

If your account was suspended, please reply to the suspension notice email within Student Souk

Recognising a fake account suspension notice

Watch out for spoof (fake) email warnings about account suspension. To confirm that an email was sent from Student Souk, check your messages in Student Souk. If the email is not present under the mail section then the email was not sent from Student Souk.

To change your contact information:

When you registered with Student Souk, you provided your email address. To use Student Souk effectively, it's important to keep this information accurate and up to date. If the information changes, you can update your profile information and you don't need to register again.

You can change the following contact information from within your profile section:

  • Email address
  • PayPal address

To change your contact information

  • Go to My Profile
  • Click on edit profile
